Grants
Worcestershire Council for Voluntary Youth Service (WCVYS)
The youth club received start up and equipment grants from this organisation who also offered a lot of advice as to documentation that would be needed. They also offer a service to get volunteers CRB checked when they work with children and young people. We have also received further grants towards training costs such as when Lyn Judge and Angie Herbert attended the Block A Youth Service Training course which covered areas such as first aid, drugs awareness, child protection, etc. They also covered training costs for Lyn Judge and Tracey Perkins to be trained in Basic Food Hygiene.
In 2005 we also asked for, and received, a Summer Activities grant to enable us to open the village hall during the day in the summer holidays, have a free craft day where young people could try many arts & crafts and keep their items without any cost to themselves, and go on trips such as Alton Towers.
We have ongoing contact with them, in particular Dave Bouker, who is always very helpful should we need advise and guidance. He can be contacted on: dave@wcvys.co.uk or their office number is: 01562 748450
Funding Lots of Stuff - FLOSS:
Two groups of young people successfully bid for money to do activities during the summer holidays last year and also to purchase sports equipment and arts & craft materials for the youthclub.
Kitty was the leader of one group that applied for £2500 to pay for trips out to Alton Towers, @Bristol, Aztec Water (2 trips) etc. This meant that we had the funds to make these trips free to the young people who wanted to go but would otherwise have not been able to pay for the visits.
Andy was the leader of the second group who applied for £1500 to buy a volleyball net, football nets, basketball hoop, table tennis table and various other items of equipment and his grant also paid for arts & craft materials to allow us to have an open day at the village hall for many youngsters to come along and try things such as calligraphy, glass painting, ceramic painting, t-shirt designs, jewellery making etc.
This year (2007) there are two other groups of young people who are applying for grants. One group again to cover trips and another to do sports activities. Watch this space!
Alongside this Kitty has also been trained as an assessor who now goes out alongside other young assessors to interview and award grant money to those groups they think have worthwhile projects that should be supported. Well done Kitty!!![]()
